Overview
For stage, film and TV actors. The app mimics a live on-stage rehearsal but without the time pressures and without the embarrassment of making mistakes or badly flunking lines. By being able to practise and work through line-learning mistakes in private and in advance, it gives you confidence before you even step out on stage.
List of Features
ACTORS
- Completely free of charge to actors. No purchase fee. No licence fee. No subscription. No nothing! The financial model is that the production company rent time on the app for individual productions (at extremely reasonable rates, affordable by amateur and professional companies alike, and pro-rata to the number of characters in the script)
- Can handle any number of productions you are preparing for simultaneously.
SIMPLE AUDIO RECORDING OF LINES
- Rapid recording of your scripted lines using audio cues only, without having to press buttons or glance back and forth between the app and the script
- No need to have to tediously record all the other characters’ lines in the script
- Easy to go back and erase individual lines or re-record fluffed lines.
- Quick pushbutton editing facility for the director to assemble the individual recorded lines in sequence. The resultant full-cast mix is then automatically transferred back to each individual actor, ready for use.
- Audio mix can be edited as many times as needed for cuts and script changes and automatically redistributed to the actors
A MULTITUDE OF USEFUL PRIVATE REHEARSAL FACILITIES
- Plays the lines of all the other characters, leaving gaps for you to speak your lines.
- Optionally, automatically prompts you if you forget your line.
- Special cue practise facility. Skips all the lines except for a specified number of lines before your own, so you can practise your cues without having to wade through the entire script.
- Optionally, each character’s line can be automatically prefixed by a synthesised voice stating the name of the character. This can be useful in the early stages of learning the lines.
- Instant re-try if you wish to repeat any cue line followed by your own line.
DIRECTORS, STAGE MANAGEMENT and TECHNICAL TEAMS
- Organises scripts by Act and Scene. Divide long scenes into sub-scenes as required for convenience
- Stage directions can be recorded and optionally read out before the relevant lines.
CONVENIENCE AND SECURITY
- Works on all of a user’s gadgets - mobiles, laptops, computers etc - without the user needing to make complicated transfers of script data between one gadget and the other. Data transfer is handled automatically over the internet.
- All data is encrypted and transferred over a secure connection, for privacy.
- All script data is stored locally on your devices, so no need to be permanently connected to wi-fi. Ideal for learning lines while travelling.
- Director can also assume an actor role or stage manager role in their own production. The dual roles can be switched between on one gadget or managed separately on two separate gadgets (e.g. two phones, or a phone and a PC or Mac)
SPECIAL FACILITIES
- Can also be used by actors understudying one or more characters.
- Supports an actor doubling two or more characters
- Optional facility to learn lines through a guided technique known as “Mathetics” which is designed to maximise line retention.
- Guaranteed free of AI. Does not require social media sign-in. Requires only a working email address for each user (which can be a specially dedicated address if for privacy you don’t wish to use your regular email)
WHAT THE APP IS NOT
- The app is not designed to prepare actors for auditions.
- The app neither reads nor displays written scripts. It works purely through audio.
- What the app does do is specialise in preparing actors, directors and technicians for the live, script-free, on-stage rehearsals. It aims to perform this vital function extremely well.
The app is very simple to use
- The acting company producer (film, TV or theatre) registers a production name, the name of each actor and the part the actor will be playing. The app automatically emails each actor an invitation to record their lines using the app on their mobile, laptop or PC.
- The producer is informed when all the actor readings are ready. The director or stage manager does a one-off mix of all the actors’ lines in sequence, using the app’s ultra-fast pick-and-place editing facilities. Relevant stage direction audio can also be added at this time.
- Each of the cast then automatically receives an audio of the entire script, with gaps where their own lines should be, so they can practise at home, or while commuting etc without needing the other cast members to be physically present. The app also has a prompt button, so the actor can get a prompt if they have forgotten a line at any point.
- Transfer of recordings between cast and producer requires an internet connection, but once an actor has received the final mix, the app works offline, making it easy to use anywhere without needing to be connected.
- The app allows for varied scenarios, such as actors understudying more than one part, actors playing more than one part, actors working simultaneously on different productions either for the same or different companies.
- The financial model is the app is free for actors to use. The production company pays a fee to rent the app’s facilities for a specified period up to and including the day of the final performance, which can be anything up to a year ahead. After that, the recordings of the actors’ lines will be erased, to avoid any possible copyright issues. The app is not a permanent script repository but is instead a temporary rehearsal aid for a specific production-in-progress.
