Overview

For stage, film and TV actors. The app mimics a live on-stage rehearsal but without the time pressures and without the embarrassment of making mistakes or badly flunking lines. WHAT THE APP IS NOT

The app is very simple to use

  1. The acting company producer (film, TV or theatre) registers a production name, the name of each actor and the part the actor will be playing. The app automatically emails each actor an invitation to record their lines using the app on their mobile, laptop or PC.
  2. The producer is informed when all the actor readings are ready. The director or stage manager does a one-off mix of all the actors’ lines in sequence, using the app’s ultra-fast pick-and-place editing facilities. Relevant stage direction audio can also be added at this time.
  3. Each of the cast then automatically receives an audio of the entire script, with gaps where their own lines should be, so they can practise at home, or while commuting etc without needing the other cast members to be physically present. The app also has a prompt button, so the actor can get a prompt if they have forgotten a line at any point.
  4. Transfer of recordings between cast and producer requires an internet connection, but once an actor has received the final mix, the app works offline, making it easy to use anywhere without needing to be connected.
  5. The app allows for varied scenarios, such as actors understudying more than one part, actors playing more than one part, actors working simultaneously on different productions either for the same or different companies.
  6. The financial model is the app is free for actors to use. The production company pays a fee to rent the app’s facilities for a specified period up to and including the day of the final performance, which can be anything up to a year ahead. After that, the recordings of the actors’ lines will be erased, to avoid any possible copyright issues. The app is not a permanent script repository but is instead a temporary rehearsal aid for a specific production-in-progress.
